About Mahale Mountains
Mahale Mountains National Park is one of Tanzania's most remote and pristine wilderness areas, famous for its population of wild chimpanzees. The park is located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika and offers a unique combination of mountain and lake environments.
The park is home to approximately 1,000 chimpanzees, making it one of the best places in Africa to observe these fascinating primates in their natural habitat. Visitors can participate in guided chimpanzee tracking expeditions, which offer intimate encounters with these intelligent animals.
Mahale's diverse habitats include montane forests, grasslands, and the pristine waters of Lake Tanganyika. The park also supports a wide variety of other wildlife, including forest elephants, various monkey species, and numerous bird species.
