Discover the diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes of Mikumi National Park, Tanzania's fourth largest national park.
About Mikumi National Park
Mikumi National Park is one of Tanzania's most accessible wildlife sanctuaries, located approximately 283 kilometers west of Dar es Salaam. The park covers an area of 3,230 square kilometers and is part of the larger Selous ecosystem.
The park is characterized by its open grasslands, acacia woodlands, and the Mkata floodplain, which provides excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Mikumi is home to a wide variety of animals including elephants, lions, zebras, wildebeest, impalas, buffalo, and over 400 species of birds.
The Mkata plains are often compared to the Serengeti plains due to their similar landscape and wildlife. The park offers excellent game viewing throughout the year, with the dry season (June to October) being particularly good for wildlife spotting.
